A disturbing discovery in Norwood sparked a police investigation after a 53-year-old woman was found dead inside her apartment at 115 East Mosholu Parkway North.

The NYPD say officers responded to a 911 call for a wellness check around on Thursday. When they arrived, they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

Neighbors told News 12 they had reported smelling a foul odor in the hallway and grew concerned after not seeing the woman for several days.

They say the woman had a live-in boyfriend who was aggressive and violent toward her. They say that he once hit the woman so hard she lost vision in one eye.

"She didn't deserve this," said her upstairs neighbor Denise.

Police have not confirmed any arrest, and they say their investigation is ongoing.

The medical examiner will determine that woman's cause of death.
