Some Ramapo residents say they’re concerned over zoning in their area after their street froze in the aftermath of last week’s bomb cyclone.

News 12 had received video through Masood Haque – who resides on Sky Meadow Road – from another concerned neighbor showing how much water pooled up outside a yeshiva following last week’s storm

"It was extremely dangerous,” said Haque.

Although the ice has since been broken up, concerned neighbors said these drainage issues are from construction and the removing of trees. They added that the yeshiva didn’t get the proper approvals or permits first.

"Rules should be applied to everyone equally,” added Haque. “People who have violated zoning laws should not be aided and abetted by the local government."

Ramapo’s First Assistant Town Attorney Alyssa Slater told News 12 the schools currently have single family certificates of occupancy and while those properties could become schools. The school at 36 Sky Meadow Road which has been hit with violations and are currently being dealt with in court.

"We haven't met the criteria to bring an injunction on the property,” she said. “But of course, we're monitoring it. And if anything were to happen out there that would potentially put anybody in danger then of course, we would seek that relief."

Neighbors said they also have concerns over the increased traffic on their road as a result of these schools.
