Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and members of the Bronx's community boards met Monday to discuss the fate of homeless people who are currently sheltered at cluster housing sites that the city plans to phase out of existence.
"Homelessness is an issue that's on everybody's lips," Diaz says.
But the controversial cluster housing system has prompted enough criticism for the city to begin bringing it to an end.
"We're transforming a system that's built up over nearly four decades, didn't serve homeless families or their communities," he says.
The meeting did not touch on any specific replacement plans, but Diaz says it helped put people on the same page, working toward the same goal of housing the homeless in their respective communities.
