The El Maestro Cultural Center on Southern Boulevard is collecting donations to help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico and earthquake victims in Mexico.
Co-owner Pedro Laspina says not only does he have relatives in Puerto Rico, but people who share his heritage are one big family.
"We know we gotta do this, for Puerto Rico and Mexico," he says.
The gym will take collections every day, but there will be another collection event on Saturday at noon.
"This boxing gym represents Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic," says Steven Rijos, who works out there. "It represents not only the boxers in here but also the people out there."
Some of the desired items are clothes, food and baby formula.
"Whatever you all can bring, we will make sure that it gets to Puerto Rico," Laspina says.
