The boyfriend of the woman who was fatally stabbed in Pelham Bay Park was charged with her murder on Friday.
Franklin Batallas was also charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of 30-year-old Anthonella Contreras Linarez.
Police say Contreras Linarez was stabbed multiple times Wednesday night near City Island Road. She was rushed to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Detectives say 44-year-old Batallas drove them both to the hospital, where he had a stab wound to the forearm.
Contreras Linarez's family says Batallas tried to say the stabbing happened as a result of a mugging gone wrong, but they never believed his story and always thought he was responsible.
Relatives say the couple had recently broken up after they lived together in her Bronx apartment.
They claim he had been stalking her in the weeks before the killing.
Just days ago, Contreras Linarez returned from a vacation in the Dominican Republic.
Her cousin told News 12 that her mother spoke to her around 7 p.m. Wednesday night where she said she was going to dinner. She was dead an hour later.
