A brawl erupted between migrants and NYPD officers on Thursday after a police crackdown on illegal scooters, leading to six arrests and two injured officers.
The incident took place in Bushwick outside of a migrant shelter while officers were confiscating scooters they say violated the law. Six migrants were arrested in the incident with three of those people facing a charge of assault on an officer.
The migrant shelter is located at the intersection of Jefferson and Flushing avenues, and multiple e-bikes line the streets outside of the shelter.
The NYPD says that prior to their efforts, there were multiple complaints from elected officials and community members alike about the e-bike issue.
Sixteen unregistered scooters were confiscated in yesterday's crackdown, and two officers suffered minor injuries.
