Bridgeport City Councilman Michael DeFilippo resigned after being indicted on federal election fraud charges.
DeFilippo, 35, resigned Thursday shortly after the charges were announced.
Bridgeport City Councilwoman Maria Pereira says she wants to know more about the bombshell developments and that unlike other recent indictments against Bridgeport politicians, where she herself had filed the complaints, all the details of the case against DeFilippo - a Democrat representing Bridgeport's 133rd District since 2018 - have yet to come to light.
Public record show the allegations against DeFilippo allegedly include falsifying election documents and forging signatures.
The nonprofit Bridgeport Generation Now Vote tells News 12 it was not surprised to learn about allegations of absentee ballot fraud against DeFilippo because that kind of crime has been a big part of Bridgeport political history for decades.
News 12 reached out to DeFilippo for comment.
