The head of an iconic Bridgeport church facing foreclosure is praying for a miracle to save his parish.
The clock is ticking for the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in the East End of Bridgeport after the church was foreclosed upon Saturday
Two-time Grammy award-winning gospel artist Hezekiah Walker, who attended the church growing up, made a $500,000 loan to save the church.
Pastor Kenneth Moales Jr. says he still has a long way to go to keep the doors open despite Walker's financial help.
State and local leaders came together for an emergency meeting Tuesday night to help the church find a path forward after being foreclosed upon.
Moales says the church is the victim of a predatory lender that targets Black congregations. Bridgeport NAACP President D. Stanley Lord says he's pushing for the national NAACP to sue the lender.
State Sen. Marilyn Moore says she is doing everything in her power to help save the church.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal added his support to the cause, telling News 12, "predatory lending practices are more common than ever."
