A Bronx lawmaker is proposing a new system that would reimburse MTA riders anytime they're forced to wait long periods for delayed subways.

State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz proposed the idea, saying the MTA needs to take action for service interruptions. His plan would give cash back to subway riders for any delays longer than 30 minutes.

The plan comes after a similar policy was enacted on the Long Island Rail Road for the upcoming "Summer of Hell," where riders taking different routes due to repairs at Penn Station will receive discounted fares.

Dinowitz says the plan is needed more than ever after the recent F train power outage that left riders underground for an hour and last week's A train derailment.

On Friday, Dinowitz also renewed his call to President Donald Trump to declare a federal state of emergency at Penn Station.

The MTA declined to comment for this story.
