Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson hosted the annual Dominican Heritage Month celebration Thursday.
More than 100 people attended the event to celebrate their roots and honor all those who have contributed to the growth and success of the Dominican community in New York City.
The event is hosted each year by the borough president's office and five Dominicans from the city received recognition for their hard work and were named honorees.
NYPD detectives Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera were also honored at the event - as both were Dominican Americans.
Members of Rivera's family were at the event.
Another honoree was attorney and Board of Elections worker Miguelina Camilo, who says she doesn't take this honor lightly.
Other honorees included Tomas Ramos, the president of the nonprofit Oyate Group and Francisco Marte, the founder of the Bodega and Small Business Association.
