Bronx businesses are doing their part to assist with the relief effort in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria.
Businessman Jose Acevedo's relief effort started small, but he says he soon realized he was just getting started.
Supplies soon filled up his store, Gold Star Pawn Shop, so they've since teamed up with a local health care provider whose commercial warehouse has become their collection command center.
It's now a systemized drive in partnership with the Empire State Relief and Recovery Effort. After drop-off, approved items go to Roberto Clemente State Park, one of the several state sites sending the items.
Earlier this week, President Donald Trump announced plans to send a Navy hospital ship to the port of San Juan, Puerto Rico to further assist with relief.
