A Bronx mother says she is thankful for a crisis intervention program that helped her teenage daughter when she needed it most.

Connie Rivera says she could tell something was wrong with her 16-year-old daughter Caitlin back in December when she would not talk to her, despite saying she needed someone to talk to. She and her husband then learned Caitlin had been self-harming by cutting herself.

Rivera and her daughter knew she needed help and received assistance from the Bronx Children's Mobile Crisis Team. The free service from the Visiting Nurse Service of New York provides psychiatric social workers to work with children and adolescents.

Rivera says the program saved her daughter's life.
