A Catholic church in the Bronx has been the victim of vandalism overnight and it's not the first time they have been targeted.

Father Nicholas Blackwell of St. Simon Stock - St. Joseph Parish woke up to calls from concern parishioners.

"Our statue of the Sacred Heart behind me here and the Statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe has things thrown on it," says Father Blackwell.

Father Blackwell believes it to be mustard and ketchup covering the religious images decorating the exterior of the St. Simon Stock - St. Joseph Parish.

"Our parishioners this morning cleaned up our statues but as you can tell from previous vandalism over the years this statue tends to be a target of this kind of behavior," he says.

Previous vandalism include the removal of the hands of the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue that have been missing for the past two years. The church says it is unable to get funds to replace it. The church was also a target earlier this year on Good Friday.

'We had a brick thrown through our window thanks be to god no one was injured but this is just the kind of thing we have to deal with in our area,” says Blackwell.

The church has worked with the 46th precinct to report some of these acts of vandalism, but they hope people will be more respectful in the future despite of their disagreements

"With everything going on in the church, that’s one thing but to go after things that belong to the people of God like their statues and their places of Worship that's another,” says Blackwell.
