The World Mission Society Church of God and the New York Blood Center teamed up on Sunday to host a blood drive to save lives in the Bronx community.
A couple of caring Bronx residents got together at the church on Webster Avenue in the Norwood section of the Bronx to share their faith and a donation of blood.
The blood drive was a part of a worldwide campaign for Passover to raise awareness about the importance of blood donations in saving the lives of countless people.
"We're looking over statistics and only 38% of people are able to donate but only about 3% are actually donating. But realistically there's so many people that need blood donations," said Veronica, a volunteer for the church. People are sick in the hospitals, and we have amazing hospitals but not enough blood donations."
Volunteers of the church said over 100 participants signed up to donate blood. Organizers said they hope the event will encourage even more New Yorkers save a life through blood donation.
"Our goal for today is to be able to save 300 lives. We had 100 participants sign up. Through one donation, three lives can be saved," said Salvador Narvarro, a volunteer of The World Mission Society Church of God.
