? Though the snow from Friday?s winter storm stopped falling, drivers were still advised to stay on the lookout for black ice throughout the evening.
The storm dumped around 4 to 6 inches of snow before changing over to sleet and freezing rain. A slight rise in temperatures during the day caused some of the snow to melt, but temperature drops added the potential danger of ice on area roads as night fell.
According to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the city had 2,000 employees and 2,200 pieces of equipment working to keep the streets plowed and traffic moving. The Department of Sanitation even hired city residents to help with the cleanup. The city paid workers $12 an hour.
