Saturday marks an important day for Pakistani Americans as Pakistan celebrates its 75th independence day.
The Bronx Community Council joined in on the festivity. A Pakistani American organization partnered with ICNA Relief to pull off the event on Burke Avenue.
The group celebrated their culture by sharing words of wisdom with each other and taking note of the importance of independence.
The group also handed out free food and school supplies to anyone and everyone in need. New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Sen. Jamaal Bailey also handed out supplies themselves.
ICNA Relief organizers say they found it important to not only celebrate this independence day, but to also give back.
They plan to host another back-to-school giveaway at the 47th Precinct this Monday.
