Criminal justice stakeholders in the Bronx are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to add prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges to the list of New Yorkers currently eligibile for the COVID-19 vaccine.
A group gathered outside the Bronx County Hall of Justice Monday to remind everyone that the Bronx has the highest COVID-19 positivity rates in the state and in all five boroughs.
Jury trials are set to resume in two weeks and they say they are in favor of full in-person court operations because victims and defendants have been denied their day in court.
Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark says they deserve protection because her staff risks their health every day by coming into the courthouse.
“Our staff members who interface with the public in the courthouse need to be included as eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. These stakeholders, again as I said, are essential to providing access to justice for Bronx residents,” said Clark.
The DA also says the Yankee Stadium is within walking distance, so they could easily walk over and get vaccinated.
