A Bronx elementary school held a ribbon-cutting on Thursday for the grand opening of a brand-new community fridge.
The fridge will sit right outside of Linden Tree Elementary School, where many partnering organizations joined the students in filling that fridge with necessities for the community.
The idea for the fridge began in the school and quickly gained traction through donations and hard work. Grassroots Grocery, The New York Common Pantry and Councilmember Amanda Farias helped get this fridge up and running fast.
“The community fridge is a response to what the community needs, we're a community-rooted school and everything we do is about empowering our community, responding to the needs of our community,” said Linden Tree principal Cynthia Rosario.
The fridge will be stocked twice a month by those same partners who worked to make it happen. They are also accepting public donations.
