A Bronx family is fighting to keep behind bars the man who attacked and killed a nurse at a Montefiore Medical Center parking garage.

Barbara Meliota, 24, was sexually assaulted and beaten to death in 1982. Her body was dumped in the airshaft of the hospital's garage.

Every two years, her family goes before the parole board in Albany to explain why Anthony Doyle, the man convicted in Meliota's death, should not be granted parole.

He became eligible for parole in 2012, according to the state's Department of Corrections inmate database. Doyle is due to go up in front of the parole board again in March.

Meliota's family has started a petition, which now has over 5,000 signatures, to keep Doyle locked up. He was a garage maintenance worker at the time of Meliota's death.

Her family says she was practically right out of nursing school when she was murdered and never had the chance to get married or have children.
