Community leaders say businesses on Jerome Avenue are hurting. Now, Bronx organizations are teaming up to help hire local and support small businesses.
The Jerome Avenue Revitalization Collaborative, known as JARC, launched just a week ago. The area was rezoned a few years ago, which allowed mixed residential, retail and service use.
Organizers say about 400 businesses are in the affected area. They tell News 12 they were able to get one business a grant as its landlord was pushing to raise rent.
They also want to make sure residents in the neighborhood can shop and work where they live.
They are asking anyone living in the community that needs help with their business or is looking for work to reach out on social media.
