A Bronx man facing animal cruelty charges stemming from what he described online as a "ritualistic sacrifice" was in court Tuesday amid a raucous chorus of protesters outside.

Judge Linda Poust Lopez told Daviid Mosley, 26, that she would only move forward with a plea deal in the case if Mosley's legal team agreed to a maximum sentence on an animal cruelty charge. It wasn't immediately clear if he would take the deal.

According to the Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark, Mosley killed a cat in a ritualistic sacrifice and boasted about it on social media. The post gained traction with animal activists who called for his arrest.

Mosley was charged with criminal mischief, aggravated cruelty to animals and torturing and injuring animals.

Activists outside Bronx Criminal Court held signs, chanted and banged on the window as Mosley went through security there. He was escorted inside by five police officers.

In court, Mosley agreed to continue attending his mental health appointments. His next court date is Dec. 2.
