The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment of a Bronx man for allegedly stalking and killing his ex-girlfriend in Harlem.

Luis Marquez, 41, is accused of stabbing Carmen Lopez, 47, more than 20 times on Nov. 9.

According to court documents, Marquez stalked Lopez at a club before waiting for her return inside the stairwell of her building. Marquez allegedly pinned Lopez to the ground as she exited the elevator and stabbed her repeatedly in her chest, throat and stomach.

Prosecutors say Lopez’s body was discovered 15 minutes later.

"As alleged, Carmen Lopez's life was brutally taken by her ex-boyfriend in a horrific act of intimate-partner violence," said District Attorney Alvin Bragg. "Ambushed after a night out with friends, Ms. Lopez was left to die alone on the floor in her own apartment building. My heart is with Ms. Lopez's loved ones as they grieve her immense loss.”

Marquez was arrested two days after the attack and is charged with murder.

The Manhattan DA’s office urges those experiencing intimate partner violence to call its Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau at 212-335-9373.
