A Bronx man was sentenced Wednesday for murdering his girlfriend inside of his home in Melrose.

Authorities say that in September 2021, 46-year-old Angel Hernandez strangled Belkis Lopez to death with a rubber workout band.

Court documents say Hernandez left the victim's body in the home with her three children inside, including her 14-year-old daughter, who first discovered the body when waking up for school.

Hernandez was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
