A shooting victim's mother says she still has no idea why someone gunned down her son on Andrews Avenue last month.

"They're not giving us details of what happened, why it might've happened," says Nicole Simmons, whose 27-year-old son Fredrick Hayes was shot in the head and torso on July 31. 

Hayes, who was also known as Rico, had a 9-year-old daughter. The family is hoping someone will come forward and give police information on the slaying.

"It's hard," Simmons says. "I can't sleep. Everyone is hurting."
