A 13-year-old boy from the Bronx is charged with making bomb threats at a high school in Kearny, according to police. The boy's name has not been released since he's a minor.
Kearny police say investigation suggests the teenager called the threats into Kearny High School last week on Tuesday and Wednesday. The teen suspect reportedly did this as a prank and called the school at random, according to police.
After consultation with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, police say it was determined the charges would be lodged on a summons-complaint that was mailed to the alleged offender’s home in lieu of arresting him. In the past, police say they would have taken the juvenile offender into custody and functionally arresting him. Police say things are often done differently since Criminal Justice Reform took effect.
The teen is charged with one count of false public alarms and two counts of terroristic threats.
