An entertainment staple in the Bronx could soon find itself becoming a landmark.
The Bronx Opera House, built as a theater and restaurant in the early 1910s, has been converted into the Opera Hotel. The former theater also served as an entertainment center for Broadway shows and became a major location for the growing Latin music scene in the 1950s and 1960s.
The Landmark Preservation Commission held a meeting to discuss the proposition, and Bronx residents are excited for a borough staple potentially becoming a part of history.
The commission will hold a follow-up hearing on the proposed designation at a future date.
