New York City is bringing more free coronavirus testing to the Bronx by rolling out a new nasal swab that gets results almost instantly.
The new process consists of a two-second swab and a diagnosis within minutes.
Bronx residents were seen lined outside St. Simon Stock Church for testing. In her first in-person appearance in four months, NYC’s Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot toured the pop-up testing site in the Bronx.
The location was chosen to increase access in a community where the number of people testing positive is significantly higher than the citywide average of 2%.
The goal, set by the city's Department of Health, was to test 2,500 people in the community within two weeks.
In the five days that the site has been up and running, officials say about 1,000 Bronx residents have been tested.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. was amongst those who got free tests Tuesday.
