Bronx residents who have connections to the U.S. Virgin Islands met Wednesday night at the Ultimate Grill restaurant to discuss how they can continue to help those ravaged by last year’s hurricanes.
Councilman Andy King, along with members of the U.S. Virgin Islands Fresh Water Association, say more needs to be done to help the thousands who were impacted.
He says the population is still struggling with infrastructure, economic and school system issues while in the midst of another hurricane season.
Hurricanes Maria and Irma wreaked havoc on the islands last year, causing billions of dollars of damage and killing a still-disputed amount of people.
Hurricane season ends on Nov. 30.
