Bronx residents lined up in Woodlawn to get OMNY cards, as the long-time existing fare system with MetroCards is set to expire on Dec. 31.
The MTA is stationing mobile sales vehicles all around the city throughout December to help people transition to the new system. The OMNY cards allow for a tap-and-go model instead of the well-known swipe of a MetroCard.
People on line told News 12 they're excited for the new OMNY cards because they're more durable than the flimsy MetroCards and sometimes it's hard to swipe them when going through the turnstiles.
The MTA said while you won't be able to buy or reload a MetroCard in 2026, you can still use one into the new year.
The MTA mobile sales vehicles will be at the following locations and dates:
Thursday, Dec. 4
Bartow Mall on Co-op City Blvd (Near GVS Eye Care Center), 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 10
Metropolitan Avenue & Yankee Mall (in front of Macy's), 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
