Bronx residents urged to prep for coastal flooding ahead of weekend storm

The weather may be calm Friday, but emergency officials warn that significant changes are on the horizon as a coastal storm is expected to impact low-lying Bronx neighborhoods this weekend.

Residents in waterfront communities like Clason Point, Throgs Neck and City Island are urged to begin preparations immediately.
“Monitor the forecasts, make sure you have access to the information that you need,” Iscol said. “We always say knowing is half the battle.”

Iscol also advised Bronx residents to take practical precautions now.
“Get stuff out of the basement. Keep your high-end car on higher ground. Don’t go driving through flooded streets — that can be very dangerous. If there are downed power lines, report them, but stay away from them,” he said.
Officials are also reminding residents to secure outdoor furniture and decorations, including Halloween displays, to prevent them from becoming dangerous projectiles in strong winds.
