A rapper from the Bronx is finding success in his music.
Lazarao Martinez grew up in Hunts Point and is now emerging in the hip-hop community, where many know him as Lazaris the Top Don.
He has more than 100,000 followers on Instagram and thousands of streams on Spotify.
His career took off during the pandemic, when he continued to work on his music while also staying involved in the community.
"I was constantly working in the studio, working with the community -- several different organizations like Guns Down Life Up. Trying to give a positive, lucrative message to the actual youth and teens out here,” Martinez said.
His album, Success In my Path V. 1 is out now. Through his music he is carrying the legacy of his uncle, who is known as the godfather of salsa - Arsenio Rodriguez.
"La música esta dentro de la sangre, like I like to tell the people -- and some people don't recognize it," he said.
