Fordham Road Business Improvement District businesses want Bronx residents are offering discounts to lure local shoppers.
This weekend marked the official beginning of an ad campaign designed to draw shoppers to the area. Fordham Road shop owners are offering a 10 percent discount to shoppers who bring in the ad or show their MetroCard when checking out. This year is the third year of the campaign.
Storeowners say they?re receiving more tourists because of sales advertising. They say even though the discounts take a small toll on their revenue, they win in the end because of the added volume.
Many of the stores are remaining open until 9 p.m. every Friday night during the promotion, which ends Dec. 16.
