Students at Rosalyn Yalow Charter School combined hip-hop and chess on Thursday.
"Hip-hop Chess Day" was created by chess master Jerald Times to get younger kids interested in the game of chess.
"We want to connect chess with youth culture," Times says. "We want to say chess isn't just a so-called nerd game. Chess is every man's game."
Times brought along hip-hop artists Loaded Lux and Barry Bee, both competitive chess players.
The artists taught the kids some moves on the dance floor and on the chess board, to help prepare them for national chess competitions.
