Several Bronx students spent Presidents Day learning how to become experts in the kitchen as part of a cooking program for kids in New York.
Sharon Ndiaye, owner of Cooking with Kids NY, designed cooking classes that can introduce cooking to children of various ages and encourage a positive association with food.
Ndiaye tells News 12 The Bronx that she started the program in 2013 after becoming inspired by her own cooking experiences with her child.
She says the classes introduce recipes from cultures around the world with a focus on healthy eating.
“My boys were in it and they're very picky eaters, said Avanna Penn. “Since taking this class, they've tried different things. It's not just nuggets and fries."
Melissa Ragoo-Wright, who says she is generally uncomfortable with her daughter handling a knife, says the class provides a safe opportunity to become familiar with kitchen tools.
Ndiaye says she hopes the classes will not only teach kids how to cook but also broaden their minds.
