After missing a year due to the pandemic, the 49th annual Bronx Week is back in full swing.  

Today’s kick-off announced this year’s Walk of Fame inductees and as the birthplace of hip-hop, the inductees represented the Bronx’s strong musical culture.  

They included Fever Enterprises owner and music executive producer Sal Abatiello, Bronx photographer Joe Conzo Jr. -- who the New York Rimes called ‘the man who took hip-hop’s baby pictures,’ -- and Kid Capri. He was one of the first DJs to perform on major networks like BET, VH1 and the show “Def Comedy Jam.” 

“These inductees are what I call the essential workers of hip-hop,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.   

“Coming back together and recognizing all the good things about the Bronx and our resurgence, our comeback, I think is important for Bronx residents,” said Council member Vanessa l. Gibson. 

And as each of this year's honorees represent hip-hop through their work, Diaz Jr. says that the events of Bronx Week are all leading up to special groundbreaking ceremony for a world class hip-hop museum being built right in the South Bronx.  

“I’m sick and tired of hip-hop artists being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is the birthplace of hip-hop. We’re gonna make the announcement groundbreaking on May 20,” the borough president said.  

Events adhering to COVID-19 restrictions will take place throughout the week, wrapping up on May 15 with a concert at Orchard Beach.
