A Bronx woman is facing life in prison for murdering of a pregnant woman by stabbing and then cutting open the woman’s stomach in an attempt to steal her unborn baby.
Ashleigh Wade, 24, was found guilty of murder and kidnapping charges from the horrific crime that was committed back in November of 2015.
Wade lured childhood acquaintance Angelique Sutton, who was more than 8 months pregnant at the time, into her Wakefield home before committing the brutal killing.
Miraculously, the victim’s baby survived and is now 2 years old.
News 12 was unable to reach Sutton’s family for reaction to the guilty verdict, but neighbors had strong reactions.
“I don't think she's fit to walk among the public,” said a neighbor. “How could you trust her? That was a crime that was evil.”
Wade is due to be sentenced on Oct. 20, where she will face 50 years to life in prison.
