A heartbroken mother is trying to understand why the woman she trusted to watch her children took them to a reservoir in Staten Island.
It was an idea that turned deadly when the mother's 9-year-old daughter, Kyemani, fell into the water.
Mother Samara Mitchell is barely hanging on. Yesterday afternoon, little Kyemani drowned after falling into the Silver Lake reservoir in Staten Island. Police say she was with seven other kids and a 31-year-old woman when it happened.
Police say the kids had their feet in the water when somehow Kyemani slipped in. Mitchell says her 10-year-old daughter Kyemora tried to save her, but it was too late. She says she regrets trusting the woman, who she says still hasn't called her, with her child.
Now her family is left with only memories and inconsolable pain.
"I never let my kid go nowhere in nine years of her life. One time I trust this person and she let me down," Mitchell said.
Investigators tell News 12 the 31-year-old woman was questioned by police but has not been charged with anything yet.
