A new shower bus in Brooklyn aims to offer care and support for homeless residents.

With tens of thousands of people living in shelters or on the street, Brooklyn Community Services and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams teamed up to make a difference.

Two elementary students from Public School 5 learned about a shower bus program in San Francisco. They inspired the nonprofit and borough president to institute it in the borough.

Adams says he's been working on the program for over two years and has contributed $308,000, as well as $77,000 from City Council.

Brooklyn Community Services staff will keep up with maintenance and monitoring, and hygiene products will be donated.

Staff says many people probably take a hot shower for granted, but for those without a home, it can be life-changing.

On top of a hot shower, there will also be workers on site to help with mental health counseling, HIV testing and other services.
