A couple of months ago, a Brooklyn business was completely shut down. However, they have now partnered with the New York City Economic Corporation to provide testing kits.
Collab is a facility that was providing space and resources to creative entrepreneurs pre-pandemic and is now making COVID-19 test kits.
"It's pretty amazing, we started from nothing and then in less than a month we figured this all out and put it all together and got it through validation studies,” said James Patchett, NYC Economic Development Corporation President, and CEO.
The kits are a multi-borough collaboration. Anna Stachofsky is one of 17 full-time workers at Collab and says she was unemployed until recently.
"I previously worked teaching at a tutoring center and of course with the pandemic, they had to shut down because it wasn't safe for the kids or us. and i was out of work for a bit,” said Stachofsky.
Workers plan to double production within the next few weeks to meet the city's needs.
