Workers at an Ocean Hills coffee shop are banding together to create a union.
Employees at the Daily Press told News 12 they were thankful for their jobs and roles in the community, but that business changes put their livelihoods at risk.
Eleven employees of the shop found out in October that management would be changing operating hours, and the change was drastic enough that some workers say they went from working five shifts a week to one.
The workers said they proposed a different operating plan to ownership to resume normal operating hours, but the proposal was rejected. They added that changes came on short notice, putting some of them in compromising financial situations.
Daily Press workers say that they’re now a recognized union with Workers United and the National Labor Review Board, and their final step is to be voluntarily recognized by ownership.
