The state’s Education Department proposed the plan in June, saying that the exams would no longer be a requirement to graduate from high school. It said the shift was being made to promote equity in education by removing the emphasis on a single test and giving students multiple ways to demonstrate their knowledge in a specific subject.

On Monday, the Education Department announced “NY Inspires” – a plan that would ‘transform education in the state.
