Days after an 18-year-old was shot while working at an East Flatbush deli, the community is coming together to denounce gun violence and call for justice.
Zayid Muthana is fighting for his life after being shot in the head in a bodega Saturday night.
"He's doing bad, fighting for his life in the hospital. The bullet is still in him but think that we're going to be good,” said Fhad Muthana, the father of the 18-year-old.
Surveillance video shows the moment leading up to the shooting. Muthana’s cousin, Hussein, tells News 12 that two people were attempting to rob the store when Muthana was shot.
The community says it is now rallying behind the family and calling for an end to senseless gun violence.
Fhad Muthana says his son works in his bodega, M&M Grocery Corp., after school to help his family make a living.
He says he is hoping for his son to make a full recovery, to continue working toward his dreams of one day having a career in real estate.
Police are asking for the public's help in finding the two people responsible for the incident.
Fhad Muthana tells News 12 that he’s been visiting his son in the hospital and that he is able to talk to him and other family members, but that they are waiting to see how his surgery goes on Wednesday.
