Brooklyn Community Services employees headed to East New York Tuesday to offer a range of health tests, information on how to find local employment opportunities and a pop-up shower van.
Brooklyn residents showed up on Livonia Avenue in numbers to speak with potential employers and health care professionals, as well as to enjoy a home cooked meal and a hot shower.
Givenson Cadet is one of the many people with Brooklyn Community Services who organized the event. He says the shower van specifically serves as a big help to many in this community who are in need.
“We provide them with showers, clothing, toiletries and also other programs,” he says.
There were also over a dozen tables with professionals on-site offering services, advice and opportunities to people in East New York.
People also had the chance to get a rapid test for HIV from health care providers inside a mobile van. Results come out as soon as 20 minutes.
The health care staff also gave out Narcan kits that can help save a life if you see someone experiencing a drug overdose.
Employees from Brooklyn Community Services say they plan to host more events in the future.
If you see their pop-up mobile shower van driving around in your community, they want you to know it is open and ready to use for anyone in need, free of charge.
