The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office held a gun buyback event on Saturday.
The event, held at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, had officials offering $400 for working firearms and assault rifles.
So far this year, Brooklyn has seen more than 25% drop in shootings across the borough, compared to the same time last year, and the DA's office is hoping to build on that momentum. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said that at a similar event last year, they received more than 200 guns.
Anyone can hand in a weapon anonymously, no ids needed, and no questions asked. The guns should be unloaded and put in a paper or plastic bag, or a box. Anyone driving here should put the guns in the trunk. They'll accept the weapons or assault rifles whether they're working or not. The only people not eligible to bring back guns are active or retired law enforcement officers and licensed gun dealers.
The event was sponsored by Junior's Restaurant.
