A Brooklyn judge has partially lifted a temporary restraining order that paused the certification of the Gowanus rezoning.
This comes after Voice of Gowanus filed a lawsuit challenging the city’s plan to use virtual hearings during the Uniform Land Use Review Procedure process of rezoning.
They argue that online meetings are not an adequate alternative for in-person public hearings because some people lack internet access.
The group’s lawsuit also alleges that the city failed to give a formal 30-day notice about the certification of the Gowanus ULURP Application, saying they need more time to review the information in it.
The judge heard arguments from attorneys representing both the city and Gowanus community members--asking both parties to draw up an order lifting the application to the public, but not yet fully allowing certification to move forward.
The judge adjourned the hearing until Tuesday when a decision could be made to allow the city to get the ball rolling with rezoning certification or delaying it even further.
News 12 reached out to the Department of City Planning for comment on Thursday’s hearing but has not heard back yet.
