Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams proclaimed Tuesday as Brooklyn Recovery Day.

The day recognizes the thousands of community members who are recovering from substance abuse.

The event is normally held in person, with thousands of people from the recovery community rallying together in Albany.

This year, the event had to be held virtually due to the coronavirus, but members of the community in recovery tell News 12 that even virtual support helps tremendously.

The Phoenix House hosted Tuesday's event.

Most participants joined on Zoom, but a few came in person to meet with life coaches and support groups and to get direct access to resources that help on average 1,500 residents a year.
