Building super from Brooklyn heading to Olympics despite injury
A building superintendent from Brooklyn is headed to this year's Winter Olympics in South Korea despite facing some obstacles.
Besnik Sokoli is following his dream all the way to Pyeongchang, South Korea, representing his native Kosovo at the Winter Olympics.
To make it to this point, Sokoli would practice on a ski training machine in his building's boiler room after a full day's work and putting his kids to bed.
Sokoli isn't competing, as only one skier is allowed to race, but just making the four-person team was honor enough for him.
"Just by going there and being with the team, it means the world to me," he says.
A war refugee, Sokoli only took up competitive skiing a year ago when a ski instructor noticed his speed.
Just days before leaving for South Korea, Sokoli dislocated his shoulder during training. Still, he says he's determined to board a plane to South Korea and support his team.
