A new Brooklyn coffee shop is pushing not pots of coffee, but pot-infused coffee.
Ian Ford's Caffeine Underground in Bushwick sells a legal version of marijuana-infused java and other offerings.
The shop uses cannabidiol, or CBD. It is one of the most abundant compounds found in hemp and has been documented as an anti-oxidant, an anti-inflammatory and an anti-psychotic.
"I lost a daughter to cerebral palsy, and at the time I was going through a lot of personal issues, and I was looking at cannabis as a way to escape," says Leighton Knowles, who created the Flower Power Coffee Co. with CBD as a main ingredient.
It's all legal.
"It does not get you high, but if you got aches and pains, and you suddenly start feeling better, then you are bound to have a better day," Knowles says.
Caffeine Underground serves up Flower Power's coffee, lollipops and other treats.
