Some Bronx business owners say they are fed up with flooding on their sidewalks.

The shop owners near Morris Avenue and Kingsbridge Road say when it rains hard enough, they sometimes have to put sandbags in front of their doors to prevent the water from seeping in.

"The litter in the street clogs up the gutter on the corner, and when it's clogged up, the water comes back up and floods the whole sidewalk," says pharmacy employee Maria Mazurkevich.

The last time the block turned into a waterway was back in April when at least two feet of water spilled onto the streets after work on water pipes caused an overflow, according to construction workers.

That's not the only time business owners see flooding.

"If it suddenly rains crazy, in a short amount of time, maybe 15 or 20 minutes, we'll see flooding," says Tan Sau, employee of kings jewelry

The city's Department of Environmental Protection has had to clean out the catch basin in the past to address the problem.

News 12 reached out to the city's Department of Environmental Protection to find out what causes this problem and what the city plans on doing as a permanent solution, but has not heard back.
