Throgs Neck's up-and-coming commercial district along East Tremont Avenue is a far cry from the row of vacant storefronts that comprised the area for years.
Now, the block has restaurants on almost every corner.
The president of the Throgs Neck Merchants Association says it's a booming, family-oriented environment.
He says the new growth boosts a community that had faced a plague of empty buildings, vacant parking lots and graffiti.
There are new grocers and 24-hour stores that didn't exist in the neighborhood until recently, along with affordable retail stores.
